49 Leaders of Gopalganj People’s Rights Council Resign

In Gopalganj, the president of the district branch of the People’s Rights Council (GOP) and 49 leaders of the newly formed committee have announced their resignation. They cited arbitrariness by the divisional subcommittee as the reason for their decision.

On Monday (27 October), district GOP president Md. Al Amin Sardar confirmed the resignations through a press release.

Earlier, on Sunday, Md. Al Amin Sardar and 49 leaders sent their resignation letters to the central committee via email.

The press release stated that since the formation of the new committee, discontent has arisen among party members. Out of the 63-member committee, including president Md. Al Amin Sardar and organizational secretary K.M. Nazmul Islam, 49 members have decided to resign.

The resigning leaders alleged that the committee formation process did not consider the party’s principles, merit, or the sacrifices and dedication of grassroots workers. Many hardworking and devoted members were overlooked, and the committee was formed through favoritism and partiality, contrary to the ideals and democratic values of the People’s Rights Council.

They also stated that they have always been loyal to the party, but it is impossible to serve in a committee where trust and fairness are absent. Therefore, they collectively decided to resign, while still believing in the core principles, ideology, and politics for the people of the GOP.

Speaking about the resignation, newly resigned president Md. Al Amin Sardar said that the 63-member district committee was recently announced, which included former Jubo League and NCP leaders. This undervalued the existing committee members and caused widespread discontent. Feeling demoralized, 49 of the 63 members, including him, decided to resign. He added that arbitrariness and favoritism by the divisional subcommittee were the main reasons. The resignation letters were sent to the central committee via email on Sunday.

It is notable that on 24 October, the central committee approved the 63-member full district committee.
