The government has set a maximum election expenditure limit of 10 Taka per voter for candidates contesting for a parliamentary seat. If a candidate exceeds this limit, the Election Commission may take legal action against them. This provision has been included under the Representation of the People (Amendment) Ordinance-2025 for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The ordinance was published in the gazette by the Ministry of Law on Monday, November 3. The amendment aims to ensure transparency in election spending and the financial management of political parties.
Candidates will also be required to disclose details of any received donations on their official websites. According to the new addition to Clause 44 of the final RPO, election spending per voter is capped at 10 Taka. Additionally, under Clause 13, candidates must submit a 50,000 Taka deposit with their nomination papers, up from the previous 20,000 Taka.
The Ministry of Law stated that this measure will help maintain transparency, control election costs, and ensure fairness in the competitive process.
