Jagannath Student Noor Nabi Receives Support Through Flower Sales for Cancer Treatment

Mir Noor Nabi, a student of the Finance Department (2019–20 session) at Jagannath University, has been battling cancer for several years. However, his treatment has been halted due to financial constraints. In this difficult situation, leaders and activists of the university unit of the Student Rights Council have come forward to support him. They have started selling flowers on campus to raise funds for his medical treatment.

On Sunday, members of the Student Rights Council were seen walking around the Jagannath University campus selling flowers to students to collect money for Noor Nabi’s treatment. From the morning, they set up tables and chairs near the 1971 Genocide Memorial sculpture to sell flowers. Later, they moved to the areas around the Shaheed Minar, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Science, selling flowers to raise contributions for Noor Nabi’s treatment.

Noor Nabi is currently in his fourth year of undergraduate studies. In 2017, after completing his SSC exams, he was diagnosed with cancer, which led to the amputation of his left leg. Despite that, he did not give up on his education. With strong determination, he enrolled in the Finance Department at Jagannath University and regularly commutes from Savar to attend classes. So far, he has completed seven semesters. According to his doctors, the cancer has now spread to his lungs.

Al Shahriar, a student of the 2020–21 session in the Finance Department, said, “Everyone’s support can bring new hope to Noor Nabi’s life. We are promoting his cause on social media and other platforms. Posters have been put up in various places, and we are planning more events soon. Let us unite in the spirit of humanity and stand beside Noor Nabi.”

AKM Rakib, president of the Jagannath University unit of the Student Rights Council, said, “Many are raising funds for Noor Nabi in different ways. We decided to take a unique approach by selling flowers in exchange for donations. The response from students has been very positive, and both teachers and students are showing great enthusiasm.”

When asked whether the university authorities would provide any assistance, Director of the Student Welfare Office KAM Rifat Hasan told the media, “There is no separate allocation for students in the Student Welfare Office. The allocated funds are used only for official purposes. However, Noor Nabi’s classmates are planning to organize a concert at the university to raise funds for his treatment, and we will support that initiative.”
