Bus Set on fire Opposite BTV Building in Rampura

A stationary bus parked opposite the Bangladesh Television (BTV) headquarters in Dhaka’s Rampura area was set on fire on Wednesday night in what fire officials believe to be an act of arson. The incident occurred at approximately 10pm, prompting swift action from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

According to Fire Service duty officer Rakibul Hasan, the fire was reported from beneath the flyover loop directly across from the BTV building. The affected vehicle, a Victor Classic Paribahan bus, had been left parked at the location earlier in the evening. Witness accounts suggest that the bus was vacant at the time, with no driver, staff or passengers present.

Two units of the Fire Service were dispatched immediately after the emergency call was received. Firefighters managed to bring the flames under control within a short period, preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby structures or other vehicles. Although the interior of the bus sustained significant damage, no casualties were reported.

Local residents said they noticed flames suddenly rising from the parked bus and suspected foul play, as a number of unidentified individuals had allegedly been seen loitering in the vicinity beforehand. However, no official confirmation regarding the identity or motive of the perpetrators has been released.

Police have launched a preliminary investigation and are examining whether the incident may be linked to recent sporadic acts of arson targeting public transport in the capital. Security patrols around the BTV complex and surrounding roads were also intensified following the incident.

Authorities say that a full damage assessment is under way and the cause of the fire will be determined once forensic analysis is completed. The sudden attack near a major state broadcasting facility has prompted renewed concerns over public safety in the city.
