Manchester United emphatically defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 last night, a victory that underscored both the Red Devils’ attacking prowess and Wolves’ persistent struggles. Despite the emphatic scoreline, United’s season continues to fluctuate, leaving supporters cautious in their celebrations.
Bruno Fernandes starred with a double, while Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount also scored for United. Wolverhampton’s only goal came from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, briefly raising the spirits of home fans and ending a lengthy scoring drought.
The result leaves Wolves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just two points—a joint-record low in English football’s top four divisions. They have not won a league match since April, suffering 16 defeats and three draws in that period.
For United, the win was a timely boost. With seven wins, four draws, and four losses, they now sit sixth, just eight points adrift of leaders Arsenal. While this demonstrates potential, the Red Devils must find consistency to make a sustained challenge for the top four.
The atmosphere at Molineux was tense in the first half, as Wolves supporters directed chants against Fosun Group, the club’s Chinese owners. Fernandes’ early strike silenced the crowd, but Bellegarde’s equaliser in stoppage time offered a brief moment of relief.
United’s dominance resumed in the second half, with Mbeumo and Mount extending the lead. Fernandes’ late penalty sealed a convincing victory, and by the end, the majority of Wolves fans had abandoned the stands in frustration.
