In Valuka, Mymensingh, the father of deceased factory worker Dipu Chandra Das has claimed that his son was the victim of a calculated conspiracy. Speaking from their home in Tarakanda village on Friday, he alleged that someone from the factory might have orchestrated the attack as an act of revenge.
Dipu, a resident of Tarakanda upazila, was employed at Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Limited, located in Jamirdia Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union, Valuka. He worked in the linking section of the factory and was considered a diligent worker.
According to local reports, an incident occurred late on Thursday evening when Dipu allegedly made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during a conversation with a colleague. The matter quickly spread among the local community and factory staff, sparking widespread anger. A mob reportedly dragged Dipu from the factory premises, subjecting him to a brutal beating that resulted in his death. His body was then hung on a tree at the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway divider and set ablaze.
The tragedy left the family and local villagers in profound shock. At the family home, mourners were seen weeping and fainting. Dipu’s father, Ravidass Das, said, “We are a poor family. I have been struggling to provide for my children. Dipu, the eldest of three sons, was our main breadwinner. Unable to pay for his BA examination form, he took the factory job.” He added, “I believe someone at the factory conspired against him to settle a personal score.”
Dipu’s mother, Shefali Rani Das, noted that her son suffered from high blood pressure but chose to send money home instead of seeking medical treatment. His sister, Champa Das, emphasised that her brother would never have made offensive religious remarks, suggesting he may have been falsely accused. Dipu’s wife, Meghna Rani, voiced fears for their young son and the uncertain future of their family.
Authorities have intervened to ensure the family’s safety. Tarakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tanvir Ahmed confirmed that every member of Dipu’s family would be provided security. Meanwhile, Valuka Model Police Station has filed a case against unknown persons, with Dipu’s brother, Apu Das, as the complainant.
The factory management stated that Dipu was asked to apologise, which he refused. When the matter became public, an enraged crowd gathered at the factory gates, ultimately leading to the tragic incident. Police later restored order.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar condemned the killing, stating, “This murder is entirely unlawful and not condoned by Islam. Any grievances must be resolved through the courts. We call for a thorough and impartial investigation to bring the culprits to justice.”
