Bindu Speaks Up About Long-Held Personal Life Decision

Renowned Bangladeshi actress Afsana Ara Bindu, a familiar and much-loved face in the country’s film and television industry, has finally opened up about a deeply personal matter she had kept private for many years—her divorce from husband Asif Salahuddin Malik. After years of maintaining discretion, Bindu candidly disclosed the truth during a recent television podcast, confirming that their legal marriage had ended in 2022.

Speaking openly, Bindu stated, “Yes, I divorced in 2022. It was never formally announced, which has understandably led to some confusion. Many assumed I was still married, while others hesitated to ask out of respect or fear. The reality is, I am no longer married.” She added that their marriage had been brief and that they had been living separately for a significant period before officially parting ways.

Bindu revealed that she and Malik had been living apart since 2017. When asked about the reasons for their separation, she chose not to provide details, citing the importance of respecting others’ privacy. “Many are curious, but another person’s life is also intertwined with this story. Out of respect, I prefer not to go into specifics,” she explained.

Addressing circulating rumours about her retreat from acting, Bindu clarified that her decision had been entirely personal. “It was never due to external pressures. I simply wanted to devote more time to my family and live a life akin to any ordinary person. Naturally, that meant stepping back from professional commitments,” she said.

Bindu’s career has indeed seen a prolonged hiatus. Following her marriage in October 2014, she distanced herself from the media. She made a brief public appearance at a marathon event in 2019 but did not return to acting full-time. In 2022, she starred alongside Arifin Shuvo in the film Unish20, and since then, she has been very selective about her professional engagements.

Bindu first came into the limelight in 2006 as the first runner-up in the Lux-Channel i Superstar competition. She subsequently established herself in both television and film, making her big-screen debut with Daruchini Dip and earning acclaim for roles in Jago, Priter Agun Jole Digun, and Ei To Prem. Her performances have firmly cemented her place in the hearts of viewers.
