Three Arrested Over Bhola Auto-Rickshaw Murder

Police in Bhola’s Lalmohan upazila have arrested three men, including the principal suspect, in connection with the brutal killing of an auto-rickshaw driver and the subsequent theft of his vehicle. The case, which has drawn widespread local attention, highlights the growing risks faced by informal transport workers operating at night in coastal districts.

According to police officials, the victim, Abu Bakar Siddique, aged 51, earned his livelihood as an auto-rickshaw (locally known as a “Borak” or easy bike) driver. On the night of 30 December 2025, he was hired by several passengers from the Charfassion municipal bus stand, who claimed they wished to travel to Gojaria Bazar in Lalmohan. Trusting them as routine customers, Siddique agreed to the journey.

At approximately 9:30 pm, when the vehicle reached the Kachuakhali area under West Char Umed Union of Lalmohan police station, the passengers allegedly carried out a premeditated attack. Police reports state that Siddique was stabbed in the chest with a sharp knife, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene, after which the attackers fled with his blue-coloured easy bike.

Upon receiving information, officers from Lalmohan police station rushed to the location, completed the inquest procedures and sent the body to Bhola Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. Following the incident, the victim’s son, Sultan Al, filed a case with Lalmohan police station, accusing unknown assailants of murder and robbery.

Under the direct supervision of Bhola Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawsar, a special investigation team was formed, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Lalmohan Circle) Satyajit Kumar Ghosh. Using technological tracking and intelligence-led methods, police arrested the main accused, Md Ibrahim (36), on 6 January. During interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to his involvement and later gave a formal confessional statement before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Based on information provided by Ibrahim, police subsequently arrested two more suspects: Md Raja (32) and Kazi Tarek (35). From their possession, investigators recovered the knife used in the killing and four mobile phones believed to be linked to the crime. Police have identified all three men as active members of an inter-district robbery gang. Notably, Md Raja has multiple prior cases filed against him in Savar and Mohammadpur police stations in Dhaka, including charges of murder and armed robbery.

Key details of the case are summarised below:
