Shonar Bangla Circus Returns with Conceptual Double Album

The acclaimed Bangladeshi experimental rock outfit Shonar Bangla Circus has officially released its highly anticipated second studio effort, titled ‘Mahashashan’ (The Great Crematorium). This ambitious production is a conceptual double album, marking a significant milestone in the band’s evolution since their debut six years ago.

Resurrection and Rebellion: The Narrative

Spanning a total runtime of one hour and 52 minutes, Mahashashan comprises 17 tracks divided into two distinct chapters. The album follows a complex narrative arc established in the band’s previous work. According to the band’s frontman and lyricist, Probar Ripon, the story revolves around a central protagonist named ‘Droho’ (Rebellion).

“Our character died in the song ‘Epitaph’ on the first album,” Ripon explained in a recent press communiqué. “Mahashashan chronicles his resurrection. In this chapter, Droho declares war against humanity, seeking vengeance for past transgressions. It is a story of retaliation against the human race.” To fully grasp the philosophical and narrative depth of the work, the band encourages listeners to experience the album as a continuous, uninterrupted odyssey.

A Legacy of Sonic Exploration

Founded in 2018, Shonar Bangla Circus achieved cult status and critical acclaim with their debut album, Hyena Express, released on 29 February 2020. Hits such as ‘Andha Deyal’ and ‘Mrityu Utpadan Karkhana’ resonated deeply with the youth, establishing the band as a powerhouse of socio-political commentary and psychedelic soundscapes.

To date, the quartet has performed over 200 concerts across Bangladesh and internationally. Their “Hyena Express Experience” solo tours, which spanned seven divisional cities, were noted for their immersive theatricality and high-fidelity sound.

The Road Ahead: Solo Tours

While the digital release took place on 8 January 2026 across global streaming platforms, the band has announced that the live premiere of the album is still to come. A dedicated solo concert tour titled “Mahashashan-er Jatra” (The Journey of the Great Crematorium) is scheduled to commence in two months. These performances will serve as the first time the 17-track saga is performed live in its entirety, promising fans an unparalleled sensory experience.
