At least 14 Palestinians, including five children, were killed on Thursday (8 January) in Israeli airstrikes across the blockaded Gaza Strip, marking a clear violation of the ceasefire brokered last year.
According to medical sources cited by Qatari news outlets, the attacks targeted multiple areas of Gaza. In the south, four people were killed in Al-Mawasi, where displaced families had set up temporary tents. In Gaza City’s Zeitoun district, another four lost their lives in a separate strike. Bombardments were also reported in central Gaza, including Bureij and Nuseirat, causing further casualties and destruction.
Tragically, in northern Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp, 11-year-old girl Hamsa Husu was fatally shot. Her uncle, Khamis Husu, described the harrowing scene: “I woke to the screams of my family and saw Hamsa lying on the floor. Blood was coming from her nose and mouth.”
Despite a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States on 10 October last year, Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out attacks across Gaza. Thursday’s strikes follow this ongoing pattern of hostilities.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) condemned the attacks on displaced families, branding them as war crimes. In a statement, the organisation said the strikes “reflect Israel’s deliberate aim to make Gaza uninhabitable” and accused the occupying power of using “false security justifications to implement a policy of killing and displacement.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that since 11 October, at least 425 Palestinians have been killed and 1,206 injured in Israeli attacks. The destruction of homes has forced hundreds of thousands of families to seek shelter in temporary tents across the territory.
Humanitarian agencies, including the United Nations, have repeatedly warned that access to adequate shelter and aid is being blocked, exacerbating the crisis. The situation is further aggravated by severe winter storms, leaving many vulnerable residents exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Casualties by Location (8 January 2026)
| Location | Fatalities | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Al-Mawasi (South) | 4 | Displaced families in temporary tents |

The humanitarian toll continues to rise as Gaza struggles under repeated bombardments, harsh weather, and restricted access to essential aid.
