Blackpink Reveal New Album ‘Deadline’ After Extended Hiatus

The wait is finally over for “Blinks” worldwide. After a hiatus spanning nearly three and a half years, the global K-pop phenomenon Blackpink is set to return with their third Extended Play (EP), titled Deadline. The official announcement arrived via a cryptic teaser on Thursday, featuring the album title piercing through a stark black veil, confirming a release date of 27 February 2026.

The Road to ‘Deadline’

The title Deadline carries significant weight for the quartet—Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. It shares its name with the group’s massive 2025 world tour, which was first announced in July last year. The EP will also feature the chart-topping single “Jump”, which dominated the Billboard Global 200 following its release last summer and became a viral sensation across social media platforms.

Blackpink Discography & Milestone Timeline

Release / Event Date Format / Milestone
Kill This Love April 2019 2nd Extended Play (EP)
Born Pink September 2022 2nd Full-Length Album
“Jump” (Single) July 2025 #1 on Billboard Global 200
‘Deadline’ Tour 2025–2026 33 Shows across 16 Cities
Deadline 27 February 2026 3rd Extended Play (EP)

Fan Reaction and Debut Anniversary

While the teaser has ignited a frenzy of excitement, it has also sparked a nuanced debate among the fandom. 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of Blackpink’s debut, and many supporters had hoped for a full-length studio album to commemorate a decade of global dominance. Having endured a three-and-a-half-year wait since their last major project, some fans expressed on social media that a short-form EP feels like a modest offering for such a significant milestone.

Production Delays and Tour Finale

The journey to this release has not been without its hurdles. YG Entertainment had originally slated the album for a November 2025 launch, but the three-month delay caused a wave of frustration among fans. Addressing the setback, the agency confirmed that all essential production, including high-budget music videos, has now been finalised.

Concurrently, the Deadline world tour is approaching its grand finale. The tour has seen the group perform 33 spectacles across 16 international cities. The final leg of the tour will take place at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium from 24 to 26 January, serving as a high-octane prelude to the album’s global launch.

As the industry prepares for the “Queens of K-pop” to reclaim their throne, Deadline is expected to be a definitive statement of their evolution over the past decade.
