In Jessore, a son has been killed by his father with a hoe

In a tragic incident in Jhenaidah district’s Chowgacha Upazila, a 35-year-old man, Tarikul Islam, succumbed to injuries inflicted by his own father. Tarikul passed away on Thursday morning, 22 January, at approximately 7:30 am while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Tarikul Islam was a resident of Jahangirpur village in Singhjhuli Union, Chowgacha, and the son of Robiul Islam. The incident, which has shocked the local community, occurred two days prior, on Tuesday, 20 January.

According to local sources, Tarikul had dozed off in front of his family’s grocery shop that morning. As customers gradually left the shop, his father reportedly became angry. In a fit of rage, Robiul Islam struck his son on the head with an axe, causing severe injuries.

Family members and nearby residents immediately rushed Tarikul to Chowgacha Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to Jhenaidah 250-Bed General Hospital. When his condition continued to deteriorate, doctors arranged for his transfer to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Tarikul passed away during treatment on Thursday morning.

Following the incident, Tarikul’s uncle, Asadul Islam, filed a case at Chowgacha Police Station. The Officer-in-Charge of Chowgacha, Rezaul Karim, has confirmed the case and stated that a formal investigation is underway.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent concerns about domestic disputes and the handling of anger within households. Local residents expressed grief and disbelief at the tragic loss of life under such circumstances.
