RAB Officer Murder: Case Filed In Jangal Salimpur, Three Arrested

A murder case has been filed following the killing of Deputy Assistant Director (Naeb Subedar) Motaleb Hossain Bhuiya of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Jangal Salimpur, Sitakunda, Chittagong. The officer was fatally attacked by armed assailants during a law enforcement operation, prompting immediate police action.

The case was lodged at Sitakunda Police Station on Wednesday night by a RAB Deputy Assistant Director. The filed First Information Report (FIR) names 29 individuals, including Mohammad Yasin, the leader of the Yasin gang from Alinagar, and his associate Nurul Haq Bhandari. In addition, 200 unidentified persons have been included as accused, bringing the total number of defendants to 229.

Police have already apprehended three individuals in connection with the incident. The named suspects are Mohammad Yunus and Zahid Hasan, while Arif Hossain was also arrested. All three have been sent to jail following court proceedings, confirmed Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohinul Islam.

OC Mohinul Islam stated, “Following the FIR, a targeted operation was carried out across multiple locations in Jangal Salimpur, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. The main accused, Yasin, already has four pending criminal cases against him, and Nurul Haq Bhandari faces seven prior charges. The operation to apprehend other suspects is ongoing.”

The murder occurred on Monday at approximately 4:00 PM during a RAB operation in the area. The attackers took four RAB personnel and one local resident hostage and forced them into a newly constructed shop located about three kilometres away in the remote Alinagar area. The assailants repeatedly beat the victims and managed to seize four RAB pistols. Subsequently, a team led by Fouzdarhat Police Officer-in-Charge Sohel Rana rescued the four injured victims from the shop and recovered the stolen firearms.
