A navy personnel member was killed in a bus accident.

In a tragic incident on Friday morning, a naval personnel lost his life when a passenger bus collided with his motorcycle in Patiya, Chattogram. Another naval member was injured in the crash. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway, near Gazi’s Bari in the Patiya Bypass area.

The deceased has been identified as Nazmus Sakib, 38, who died instantly at the scene after being crushed under the bus’s wheels. The injured, Ikram Hossain, 29, was immediately taken to Patiya Upazila Health Complex for preliminary treatment. Both victims were serving members of the Bangladesh Navy, confirmed the highway police.

Patiya Crossing Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harunur Rashid confirmed the incident, stating that both naval personnel had been riding the motorcycle together when a passenger bus heading towards Cox’s Bazar struck them from behind. “Nazmus Sakib was run over by the rear wheels of the bus and died on the spot,” he said. “Ikram Hossain sustained injuries and is currently under medical care at the local health complex.”

The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the vehicle behind. Authorities are currently investigating the case and a team from the Bangladesh Navy has arrived at the site to provide assistance and support to the families of the victims.

Highway police have urged witnesses or anyone with information about the bus or the driver to come forward to assist in the investigation. Authorities emphasised that fleeing the scene after such an accident is a criminal offence, and legal action will be taken against the driver once identified.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted road safety concerns along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway, which is frequently used by both long-distance buses and local commuters. Residents and officials alike have called for increased traffic monitoring and stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
