A shocking and potentially hazardous incident has unsettled residents of Dhamoirhat in Naogaon District. On Sunday morning, 15 February, at approximately 9:30 a.m., local butcher Entazul and his associate Dulu Moulvi were accused of slaughtering dogs and selling the meat as goat at the Mongolbari market. Upon learning of the incident, local residents forced the accused to flee the market immediately.
Eyewitnesses and police sources reported that Entazul and Dulu Moulvi had been regularly bringing meat from their homes along the Nengrapir–Isbopur road, selling it at the Tetultoli junction market. However, on Sunday morning, locals observed dogs being slaughtered at Entazul’s residence. Word of the act spread rapidly, prompting residents and market-goers to surround the shop. The accused abandoned the meat and escaped the scene.
Chairman of Jahanpur Union Parishad, Golam Kibria, confirmed that approximately 25 kilograms of dog meat had been recovered from the site and was being removed for safe disposal. He emphasised, “Such unhygienic and inhumane practices are entirely unacceptable in society. Legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.”
Dhamoirhat police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mokhlesur Rahman, stated, “Upon receiving the report, a police team was dispatched immediately. We have seized the slaughtered dogs’ heads, skins, and meat. Operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.”
A summary of the preliminary findings and recovered items is presented in the table below:
