RAB Raids Ukhiya, Five Arrested with Weapons

In a significant security operation in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, the Rapid Action Battalion-15 (RAB-15) apprehended five individuals on Monday (3 March) night, seizing firearms, ammunition, and locally made bladed weapons. The operation took place in the Balukhali Pan Bazaar area of the upazila during the late hours.

The incident was confirmed on Wednesday (4 March) by RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar media officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A. M. Faruk, who stated that intelligence reports had revealed a group of armed individuals preparing for robbery at a rented house owned by one Abdur Rahman.

According to RAB sources, the team moved to the location based on the tip-off. Some suspects attempted to flee upon sensing the security presence, but five were successfully detained while two to three managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The RAB team recovered a variety of weapons and equipment from the suspects, including:

One locally made pistol with magazine and four rounds of ammunition, plus one spent casing

One single-barrel shotgun

Three rounds of rifle ammunition

Two folding steel knives

ASP A. M. Faruk reported that during preliminary interrogation, the detainees confessed to being involved in drug trafficking and robberies across Cox’s Bazar. He also noted that Md. Alam had a prior record in a firearm-related case registered at Teknaf Police Station in 2024.

Following the arrests, RAB filed cases under the relevant sections of the Arms Act and Penal Code, and the detainees have been handed over to Ukhiya Police Station for further legal proceedings.

RAB officials highlighted that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in and around Ukhiya and Teknaf, particularly in areas inhabited by Rohingya refugees, ensuring public safety and deterring organised crime networks.

This operation is regarded as a proactive measure to maintain law and order in the upazila and to prevent planned robberies and the proliferation of illegal arms in vulnerable communities.
