The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, triggered by U.S. and Israeli operations aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes, has now spread across fourteen countries, resulting in significant loss of life. Since 28 February, Tehran has responded with missile strikes targeting Israel and American interests, while also carrying out attacks in allied Arab states hosting U.S. or Israeli facilities.
According to Qatar-based Al Jazeera, a total of 2,287 fatalities have been reported across the region since the initial escalation. Iran, as the central theatre of the attacks, has borne the heaviest toll.

The campaign began as a preventive strike strategy by the U.S. and Israel, intended to slow or neutralise Iran’s nuclear enrichment and missile development. The escalation has caused widespread instability, with energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz disrupted and global oil markets under pressure. Regional actors, including Iranian proxies in Lebanon and Iraq, have actively engaged in cross-border operations, further widening the conflict.
