A heartfelt humanitarian appeal has been made to help save the life of a young Bangladeshi college student whose both kidneys have failed. Twenty-three-year-old Sushma Rani Roy, a second-year honours student studying at Dinajpur Government College under the university programme, is currently battling severe kidney failure and urgently requires a kidney transplant to survive.
Her family says the situation has reached a critical stage, and without immediate medical intervention her chances of survival are extremely slim. Doctors have advised that a kidney transplant is now the only viable treatment option.
The desperate plea for help echoes the spirit of the famous song “Manush Manusher Jonno, Jibon Jiboner Jonno” (“Humans are for humanity, life is for life”), performed by legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika. For Sushma and her family, the message of compassion contained in those words has become painfully relevant, as they now depend on the goodwill and generosity of others to save her life.
According to family members, Sushma has been suffering from kidney complications for several years. Over time, both of her kidneys have completely stopped functioning. She now requires a kidney transplant and a compatible donor with AB positive blood type to have any realistic chance of recovery.
Medical specialists have informed the family that the transplant procedure, along with pre- and post-operative treatment, will cost approximately 40 lakh Bangladeshi taka (around £30,000). This sum is far beyond what her family can afford.
For the past three years, Sushma’s relatives have been struggling to manage her treatment in hospitals in both Bangladesh and India. The prolonged medical expenses have exhausted the family’s savings and left them financially devastated.
Sushma’s family now faces two urgent challenges: finding a suitable kidney donor and raising enough funds for the life-saving transplant operation.
