Tractor Accident Kills Farmer and Cattle

A tragic road accident in Kotiadi has claimed the life of a young farmer along with his cattle. The incident occurred on Monday, 16 March, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on the Bhairab–Kishoreganj regional road, near George Institute High School in the Achmita area of Kotiadi Upazila.

According to local sources and police reports, a passenger auto-rickshaw was travelling from Kotiadi towards Achmita market when it suddenly swerved at a raised section of the road without signalling. A truck approaching from the opposite direction lost control while trying to avoid a collision. In the ensuing accident, the truck struck Iman Mia, a 26-year-old farmer from Charipara village in Achmita Union, along with his grazing cow, killing both instantly.

Iman Mia, the son of Khalek Mia, was a full-time farmer. Eyewitnesses reported that he had taken his cow to graze near the roadside when the collision occurred.

Kotiadi Highway Police in-charge Khorshed Alam confirmed the incident, stating, “The truck collided with the farmer and his cow, resulting in their deaths. Efforts are underway to recover the overturned truck, and legal proceedings are in progress.”

The accident highlights the dangers posed by poorly signposted roads, sudden vehicle manoeuvres, and roadside grazing. Local residents have urged authorities to implement safety measures, including speed regulation and clear road markings, to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Residents have suggested installing warning signs, speed breakers, and dedicated grazing zones for livestock to enhance road safety.

The accident has caused local distress and raised concerns about road safety in Kotiadi. Police continue to investigate the circumstances and have appealed to drivers to exercise caution, adhere to traffic rules, and be vigilant near livestock grazing areas.

This unfortunate incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for stricter traffic control measures, public awareness campaigns, and infrastructure improvements to safeguard both humans and animals in rural roadways.
