What was meant to be a day of celebration turned into a tragedy for the family of Zulfiqar Islam Zillur, 26, who was due to marry on Monday, 23 March. Preparations were in full swing, with invitations sent out and festivities planned, but a sudden road accident claimed his life, leaving relatives and friends in shock.
The accident occurred on Sunday, 22 March, in the morning on the Natore–Pabna highway near Gormati Colony. Zulfiqar was travelling to his sister’s residence to deliver wedding invitations when the vehicle he was in collided with a tree, killing him instantly.
| Name | Age | Residence | Occupation | Relation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zulfiqar Islam Zillur | 26 | Nowdapara, Ishwardi, Pabna | Engineer at a private firm, Dhaka | Son of Ansarul Haq Munsi |
According to Mo. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of the Natore Bonpara Highway Police, Zulfiqar was in a private car driven by his elder brother, Rafiqul Islam, on the way to their sister’s house. “Zulfiqar’s wedding was scheduled for tomorrow. The vehicle lost control on the highway and crashed violently into a tree. Unfortunately, he died at the scene,” the officer confirmed.
Zulfiqar hailed from Nowdapara village in Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna, and had been working in Dhaka as an engineer for a private company. Known for his jovial personality and close ties with his family, he was actively involved in wedding preparations and was eagerly looking forward to the ceremony.
The news of his untimely death has sent ripples of grief through both his hometown and workplace in Dhaka. Neighbours, relatives, and friends expressed profound sorrow at the sudden loss, noting the cruel timing, just one day before his marriage.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on the Natore–Pabna highway, particularly as it is frequently used for inter-district travel and has seen several accidents in recent years. Investigations into the circumstances leading to the crash are ongoing.
What should have been a joyous occasion—a groom preparing to start a new chapter in life—has instead become a heartbreaking reminder of the unpredictability of life. Zulfiqar’s family and community now mourn the loss of a young man whose future was tragically cut short, while the wedding celebrations have been transformed into mourning rituals.
This incident highlights the persistent dangers on busy highways and underscores the importance of road safety, particularly during long journeys undertaken for family events.
