Thunderstorms Forecast Across Three Divisions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued warnings of gusty winds and thundery showers over several regions of the country, linked to a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal. The meteorological office stated that a trough of low pressure currently extends over West Bengal and neighbouring areas, while the seasonal normal low-pressure system remains over the southern Bay of Bengal.

Short-Term Forecast

From Sunday, 22 March, 6:00 p.m., for the next 24 hours, isolated areas of Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may experience gusty winds and thundery rainfall, occasionally accompanied by lightning. Elsewhere, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy with predominantly dry conditions. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly by 1–2°C, while night temperatures may increase marginally.

Extended Four-Day Forecast

The Meteorological Department has provided the following forecast for the next few days:

Date & Time Divisions at Risk Expected Weather Temperature Trend

Thursday, 26 March, 6 p.m. – 24 hrs Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet Isolated gusty or squally winds with thundery showers Day and night temperatures remain nearly unchanged

Key Advisory

Residents in the affected divisions are advised to remain vigilant for sudden gusts of wind and lightning. Mariners and fishermen are urged to exercise caution at sea, particularly near the Bay of Bengal, due to the low-pressure system’s influence.

Elsewhere, weather conditions are expected to be mostly dry with occasional cloud cover, although daytime temperatures are forecast to remain slightly above seasonal averages across the country.

The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue updated warnings as necessary, particularly if the low-pressure system intensifies over the coming days.
