A police constable has been seriously injured following an attack allegedly carried out by drug dealers in the Tongi area of Gazipur, Bangladesh. The incident took place on Saturday evening, 18 April, at approximately 8:30 pm near Tongi Bazar, close to Islami Bank. The injured officer, Constable Rahat of Tongi East Police Station, is currently undergoing treatment at Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in a critical condition.
According to police and local sources, Constable Rahat was on routine patrol duty in the area as part of ongoing operations targeting drug-related and other criminal activities. During his deployment, he was reportedly targeted in a sudden and violent assault by individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Local residents quickly intervened and rescued the injured constable before transporting him to the hospital. Medical personnel confirmed that he sustained serious injuries and remains under close observation.
A case has since been filed at Tongi East Police Station on Sunday, 19 April, against unidentified individuals in connection with the attack. Law enforcement authorities have stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
A police official, Sub-Inspector Md. Tuhin of Tongi East Police Station, confirmed the legal action, stating that investigations are ongoing and police operations have been intensified to apprehend the perpetrators.
