Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL), a pioneer in Bangladesh’s private banking sector, has established a dominant position in the national drive towards a cashless economy through its mobile application, NexusPay. The application has quietly reached a milestone of nearly 10 million users, becoming a universal digital payment platform. It serves not only DBBL account holders and users of its mobile financial service, ‘Rocket’, but also customers of other commercial banks.
Since its inception in 2018, NexusPay has rapidly expanded its reach. Bank records indicate that by the end of 2023, the app had 6.28 million users. This figure rose to 9.04 million by 2025. In the first quarter of 2026 (January to March), the user base grew by an additional 407,000, bringing the total to 9.45 million by the end of March.
The following table outlines the user distribution trends over recent years:
| User Category | 2023 (Actual) | 2025 (Actual) | March 2026 (Cumulative) |
| DBBL Core Customers | 5,723,000 | 8,084,000 | – |
| Rocket (MFS) Customers | 459,000 | 817,000 | – |
| Other Bank Customers | 99,000 | 141,000 | – |
| Total Users | 6,281,000 | 9,043,000 | 9,450,000 |
The financial volume processed through NexusPay has seen exponential growth. In 2023, the platform recorded transactions worth 58,515 crore BDT. By 2025, this figure surged to 237,572 crore BDT, representing a nearly fourfold increase within two years. In the first three months of 2026 alone, transactions reached 62,711 crore BDT.
Internal fund transfers between DBBL accounts remain the primary use case, accounting for 145,495 crore BDT in 2025. Furthermore, the app has become a preferred choice for utility bill payments (4,191 crore BDT) and retail purchases via QR codes (816 crore BDT).
A demographic analysis of the user base reveals that 84% of NexusPay users are male, while 16% are female. The platform’s utility is bolstered by a vast merchant network, with QR code payment facilities available at 180,000 retail outlets across Bangladesh. Consequently, the total number of transactions increased from 40 million in 2023 to 80 million in 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, 22.6 million transactions have already been completed.
Abutaleb Shamimul Haque Khan, Managing Director of Dutch-Bangla Bank, stated that the bank’s vision is for NexusPay to become the central hub for all financial transactions. He noted that the app now processes over 20,000 crore BDT monthly, allowing customers to conduct most banking activities without visiting a physical branch.
To utilise NexusPay, users must register via the official app available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store using a valid mobile number and a six-digit PIN. The platform allows the integration of various cards, including Nexus Debit, Rocket, Visa, and Mastercard. While DBBL customers can transfer funds to other bank accounts, this specific feature is currently restricted for users of other banks’ cards, though they may still use the app for shopping and bill payments. Additional features include a virtual ‘Loyalty Points Card’ for cashback offers and streamlined mobile top-ups.
