The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially bolstered their ranks by recalling young pace prodigy Tanzim Hasan Sakib for the high-stakes third One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand. Following a comprehensive victory that levelled the three-match series, the national selectors have opted for a 16-member squad, integrating the right-arm seamer without omitting any players from the previous tactical setup.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s inclusion marks a significant personal milestone for the 23-year-old, whose burgeoning career was temporarily halted by a debilitating physical setback. The seamer, known for his aggressive lines and natural swing, last represented the “Tigers” in the 50-over format during the October 2025 fixtures held in Abu Dhabi.
His absence from the international arena was primarily due to a persistent back injury sustained shortly after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This injury proved more stubborn than initially anticipated, forcing him to miss the entire home series against Pakistan last month and the opening two encounters of the current tour against the Black Caps.
The decision to retain all existing members while adding Tanzim suggests a desire for maximum tactical flexibility as Bangladesh approaches the “unofficial final.” The pace battery now features a formidable mix of raw speed and experienced guile, with Tanzim joining the likes of Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and the blistering Nahid Rana.

The series finale is scheduled to take place at the Birshrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on Thursday, 23rd April 2026. With the series currently poised at 1-1, the local conditions in the port city are expected to play a crucial role. Historically, the surface in Chattogram offers significant assistance to spinners in the latter half of the day, though the early start time of 11:00 AM suggests that the seamers may find some initial lateral movement.
Bangladesh enters the third ODI with considerable momentum following their clinical performance in the second match, where Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s aggression and Nahid Rana’s pace dismantled the visitors. The addition of a fully fit Tanzim Hasan Sakib provides Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz with an additional weapon to exploit any vulnerabilities in the New Zealand top order.
For the Kiwi camp, the challenge remains adapting to the humid coastal conditions and finding a way to counter the Tigers’ “brave” approach. As both teams descend upon Chattogram, the spotlight will inevitably fall on the returning Tanzim. Whether the selectors hand him an immediate start in the final XI or keep him as a potent tactical reserve remains to be seen, but his presence undoubtedly strengthens Bangladesh’s bid to clinch another prestigious home series victory.
