A 55-year-old businessman was seriously injured and over three lakh taka in cash was stolen in a coordinated attack by unidentified assailants in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur district.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning (28 April) in the Shekhar Dolvita area under Shekhar Union of Boalmari upazila.
According to local sources, injured businessman Md. Gaus Molla was initially rescued by local residents and taken to the Boalmari Upazila Health Complex. As his condition deteriorated, the attending physicians referred him to the trauma centre of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. He is currently receiving care there. Doctors have confirmed that both of his legs are fractured and he has sustained multiple sharp weapon injuries across various parts of his body.
Police and family sources identified the victim as Md. Gaus Molla, aged 55, son of the late Md. Bashar Molla of Raibari village in Shekhar Union. He is engaged in the onion trading business and regularly conducts buying and selling activities at Sahasrail market on weekly market days, where he also maintains a personal trading space.
On Tuesday around 4:00 am, he left his home on a motorcycle, heading towards Sahasrail market. Upon reaching the Dolvita area, he was intercepted by a group of assailants lying in wait. The attackers first struck him repeatedly with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured and causing him to fall from the motorcycle. They then used hammers to hit both of his legs, rendering him immobile. Medical reports indicate multiple fractures below the knees in both legs.
After incapacitating him, the attackers took away more than three lakh taka in cash, which he had carried for purchasing onions. The money reportedly included funds withdrawn from a bank on Monday and additional cash kept at home. Following the robbery, the attackers dumped his motorcycle into a nearby ditch before fleeing the scene.
His cousin, Sajal Molla, stated that the attack appeared to be premeditated. He confirmed that the victim had withdrawn approximately three lakh taka from a bank the previous day and combined it with other available funds to purchase onions.
The Boalmari Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Anwar Hossain, said that police reached the scene shortly after being informed. He added that the incident is initially believed to be a robbery. The motorcycle has been recovered and taken to the police station. A formal case will be registered once a complaint is filed, and the matter is currently under investigation.
