A coordinated police operation in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla has led to the arrest of four alleged drug traffickers along with a significant quantity of cannabis and Yaba tablets, according to local police reports. The arrests were made in two separate incidents during the early hours of Monday (4 April) as part of intensified checks along the Dhaka–Chattogram highway and adjoining areas.
In the first operation, conducted at the Gomoti Bridge Toll Plaza on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway, police intercepted a pickup vehicle and arrested two suspects. Law enforcement officials recovered a large quantity of cannabis from the vehicle. While initial accounts varied, the seizure has been reported as either 15 kilograms or 25 kilograms of ganja.
In a second operation later the same morning, police arrested two more individuals from Mohammadpur village adjacent to the highway in Daudkandi upazila. Officers seized 52 pieces of Yaba tablets during what was described as a drug transaction in progress.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
Following their detention, police filed cases under the Narcotics Control Act. All four suspects were later sent to Cumilla District Jail on Monday afternoon.
| Item | Quantity | Location of Seizure | Arrested Individuals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cannabis (Ganja) | 15–25 kg (reported variation) | Gomoti Toll Plaza, Dhaka–Chattogram Highway | Md. Rana Bepari, Md. Sajib |
| Yaba Tablets | 52 pieces | Mohammadpur village, Daudkandi | Md. Sujan, Md. Babul |
Officer-in-Charge of Daudkandi Model Police Station, Md. Abdul Bari, stated that the operation was conducted based on confidential intelligence. He added that such drives are part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking routes that frequently use major highways for distribution across the country.
Authorities believe that the Dhaka–Chattogram corridor remains a key transit route for narcotics smuggling, and regular surveillance and targeted operations are being strengthened to dismantle such networks.
Police have indicated that further investigation is underway to identify possible links between the arrested individuals and larger organised drug syndicates operating across regional supply chains.
