The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest weekly update of the Men’s T20I Player Rankings, reflecting the individual performances from the recently concluded series between Bangladesh and New Zealand. Several Bangladeshi cricketers have achieved significant career progressions following their contributions in the three-match series, which saw the second fixture abandoned due to rain.
Middle-order mainstay Towhid Hridoy has emerged as a primary beneficiary of the rankings update. Hridoy was named the Player of the Series against New Zealand after accumulating 84 runs across two innings. His campaign included a decisive half-century in the opening match and a resilient 33-run knock in the third encounter. Consequently, Hridoy has ascended two places to occupy the 37th position in the global batting standings.
The acting captain, Litton Das, also recorded a modest improvement. Following his 26-run contribution in the final match held in Mirpur, Litton moved up one spot to reach 52nd place. At the pinnacle of the batting chart, India’s opening batsman Abhishek Sharma maintains his dominance as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter.
The bowling department witnessed the most dramatic shifts for the “Tigers.” Spin-bowling all-rounder Mahedi Hasan continues his steady climb, moving up one spot to 17th in the world. His advancement is attributed to his consistent economy rates and tactical efficiency against the New Zealand top order.
However, the most remarkable surge was recorded by left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam. Recognized for providing crucial breakthroughs during high-pressure phases of the series, Shoriful jumped nine places to secure the 54th rank. His ability to maintain economical spells while taking wickets was a standout feature of the series. Conversely, Mustafizur Rahman, who did not feature in the New Zealand series, dropped one place to 12th in the rankings.
New Zealand’s players also saw upward movement despite the series outcome. Fast bowler Ben Sears climbed 10 places to reach the 51st position. Meanwhile, veteran leg-spinner Ish Sodhi moved up four spots to 88th. Sodhi’s performance in the series was particularly historic; with a career total of 165 T20I wickets, he has officially become New Zealand’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game.
