Bangladesh’s cricketers Towhid Hridoy and Shariful Islam have been rewarded for their impressive performances in the recently concluded Twenty20 International series against New Zealand, with both players making notable gains in the latest International Cricket Council rankings update.
Middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy emerged as one of the standout performers of the series. He accumulated 84 runs across two innings, including a fluent half-century in the opening match and a composed 33-run knock in the third fixture. His consistent contributions earned him the Player of the Series accolade. As a result, he has climbed two places to 37th in the global T20 batting rankings, reflecting his growing influence in Bangladesh’s white-ball setup.
Captain Liton Das also registered a modest rise. Following a 26-run innings in the final match at Mirpur, he moved up one position to 52nd in the batting rankings. While not a major leap, the improvement highlights incremental gains in a competitive landscape dominated by aggressive top-order batters. At the summit of the batting chart remains India’s Abhishek Sharma, who continues to hold the number one position.
In the bowling department, Bangladesh have also enjoyed encouraging developments. Spinner Mehidy Hasan advanced one place to 17th in the T20 bowling rankings after delivering a series of controlled and disciplined spells. His consistency in containing runs and applying pressure during middle overs has been recognised in the updated standings.
The most significant movement, however, came from left-arm pacer Shariful Islam. He surged nine places to 54th in the bowling rankings following a series of impactful performances against New Zealand. His ability to break partnerships at crucial moments, combined with economical bowling figures, contributed to his sharp rise.
Veteran left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who did not feature in the series, slipped one position to 12th in the rankings, reflecting inactivity rather than form decline.
| Player | Category | Previous Movement | New Ranking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Towhid Hridoy | Batting | +2 | 37th |
| Liton Das | Batting | +1 | 52nd |
| Mehidy Hasan | Bowling | +1 | 17th |
| Shariful Islam | Bowling | +9 | 54th |
| Mustafizur Rahman | Bowling | -1 | 12th |
Overall, the latest rankings update reflects a positive trend for Bangladesh, with several players gaining recognition for their performances against a strong New Zealand side. The improvements underscore gradual progress in both batting stability and bowling depth within the T20 squad.
