The police have recovered the hanging body of a university student named Mehedi Hasan Jihad in the Ghatail Upazila of Tangail. The body was discovered on Saturday morning, 30 May, in the Jogihatty Madhya Para area of the upazila.
The deceased, 23-year-old Mehedi Hasan Jihad, was the son of Ronju Miah, a resident of the local area. He was a second-year undergraduate student at City University in Dhaka.
According to family and local sources, Jihad had been suffering from severe mental stress over various personal matters for a prolonged period. This ongoing psychological strain had occasionally led to misunderstandings and disagreements with his family members.
On the night of Friday, 29 May, Jihad retired to his room to sleep after having his dinner as usual. The following morning, Saturday, 30 May, family members noticed his prolonged absence and began searching for him. During the search, they discovered his body hanging by the neck from the ceiling of the house’s staircase enclosure. Upon receiving the news, the local police promptly arrived at the scene and recovered the body.

Law enforcement officials have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death to establish the exact cause of the incident.
Commenting on the matter, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ghatail Police Station, Md. Moksedur Rahman, stated:
“We recovered the body immediately after being informed of the incident. It is not possible to state the exact cause of death at this preliminary stage. The matter is being thoroughly investigated, and the necessary legal processes regarding this incident are currently underway.”
The police have initiated an unnatural death case, and the body has been prepared for further official procedures. Authorities confirmed that the precise cause of death will be determined once the post-mortem examination report is officially delivered.
