Twelve Regions Alerted for Storms and Riverport Danger

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued an internal weather warning, predicting that twelve regions across the country are to experience temporary squalls with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour. This turbulent weather system is expected to bring rain or thundershowers to the affected areas.

Caution Advisory Issued for Inland Riverports

The bulletin, released by the weather office’s Storm Warning Centre, remains active from 5:00 am until 1:00 pm on Wednesday, 10 June. The authorities noted that gusty winds will blow predominantly from the south or south-west at speeds of 45 to 60 km/h, disrupting local waterways.

As a precautionary measure, riverports operating within these twelve specific jurisdictions have been directed to hoist Inland Riverport Warning Signal Number 1. The areas subject to the warning include:

  • Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Bogura

  • Tangail and Mymensingh

  • Khulna, Barishal, and Patuakhali

  • Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet
