Top Criminal Yasin Khan Palash Shot In Rampura

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police listed criminal, Yasin Khan Palash, also known in criminal records as “Kailla Palash”, was critically injured after being shot by unidentified assailants outside his residence in the Rampura area of Dhaka. The incident occurred on Friday, 12 June, following the conclusion of the weekly Jummah prayers. Two individuals wearing helmets and face masks, who had been lying in wait nearby, approached the 50-year-old victim and fired multiple gunshots at close range. Both bullets struck Palash directly in his head. Following an emergency surgical procedure, he was transferred to an intensive care unit, where medical professionals have described his condition as highly critical.

Initial assessments conducted by law enforcement agencies suggest that the targeted shooting may be connected to an ongoing conflict over territorial supremacy and the control of local business entities in the area. Investigators are currently examining whether followers of another prominent criminal syndicate leader, who is currently residing abroad, are involved in the execution of the attack. As of Friday evening, no official criminal case had been registered with the local police station regarding the incident.

Sequence Of Events And Assailant Escape Route

According to official police sources and local residents, Palash resided on the seventh floor of Khan Tower, located directly opposite the television centre in West Rampura. On Friday, he attended the Jummah prayers and a subsequent Milad ceremony at the adjacent Mokki Jame Mosque. Upon returning to the front of his residential building, Palash stopped to converse with acquaintances. At this moment, the two masked and helmeted individuals approached him on foot and fired the weapons at close range before any intervention could occur.

Eyewitnesses reported that immediately after discharging the firearms, the two perpetrators retreated to a pre-positioned motorcycle and attempted to flee the scene in the direction of Hatirjheel. When several local associates of Palash tried to pursue the suspects, the fleeing gunmen fired two additional warning shots into the air to create panic and deter any further chase. The security guard of the residential building, Ibrahim Mia, confirmed the close-range nature of the assault and noted that the attackers moved rapidly towards their getaway vehicle. The guard also revealed that Palash had been released from prison on bail approximately one month prior to the attack.

Medical Intervention And Clinical Condition Reports

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, Md Asaduzzaman, stated that the shooting took place near the Royal Sweets outlet situated outside the victim’s apartment complex. Following the shooting, local residents initially transported the bleeding victim to a community medical facility, after which he was urgently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced neurological intervention. A team of specialised surgeons completed a complex operation on the victim on Friday evening.

Dr Tarikul Islam, a Resident Trainee physician within the Neurosurgery Department at DMCH, provided specific medical details regarding the injuries. During the surgical procedure, medical professionals successfully extracted one bullet lodged inside the patient’s skull, while a second bullet had completely penetrated and exited the cranial structure. The physician confirmed that the kinetic impact of the projectiles had caused extensive structural damage to a large section of the patient’s brain. Palash remains under continuous clinical observation within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with his survival status remaining highly uncertain.

Joint Law Enforcement Investigation Framework

Following the shooting, a multi-agency joint task force was established to investigate the crime, comprising personnel from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB), the local Thana police, and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Forensic teams and investigators have successfully retrieved several closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage segments from the immediate crime scene and adjacent commercial establishments. However, the precise identities of the motorcycle-borne gunmen have not yet been established by the authorities.

Investigative officers have noted that Palash maintained a long-standing dispute with a rival gang leader who has been operating from an overseas location for a prolonged period. Law enforcement officials suspect that upon his recent release from judicial custody, Palash attempted to re-establish his commercial influence and territorial dominance within the Rampura locality, which likely prompted a retaliatory strike from a rival criminal faction. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police have stated that definitive conclusions regarding the underlying motives or the perpetrators will not be released until the formal investigation is concluded.
