Authorities in the Kustia District have exhumed the body of a 45-year-old housewife following a court order, as part of an ongoing murder investigation that has drawn significant local attention.
The exhumation took place on Sunday at approximately 11:30am in Bheramara Upazila, where the body of Monowara Khatun, a resident of Naoda Khemirdiar area, was buried. Acting on judicial directives, law enforcement officers retrieved the remains from two burial grounds within Mokarimpur Union—Ramkrishnapur and Naoda Khemirdiar cemeteries. The body was subsequently transferred to the morgue of Kustia Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
According to available information, Monowara Khatun had been approximately eight months pregnant at the time of her death, which occurred on 20 March. Her sudden and reportedly unexplained demise prompted concern among local residents, who later described the circumstances as suspicious. Following growing public concern, her son, Suman, filed a murder case with the Kustia court, alleging foul play.
The case has since been formally investigated by Bheramara Police Station. As part of the investigative process, the court ordered the exhumation to allow for a detailed forensic post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Authorities believe the findings could play a crucial role in determining whether criminal charges should be pursued further.
Her second husband, Amin Bepari, is currently absconding, and police efforts to locate him are ongoing. Investigators have not yet confirmed any direct charges against him, though he remains a person of interest in the case.
During the exhumation procedure, several officials were present to ensure legal and procedural compliance. These included the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Bheramara Upazila, Dr Gazi Ashik Bahar; Medical Officer of Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, Dr Mohammad Latiful Kabir Limon; and Inspector (Investigation) of Bheramara Police Station, Md Rakibul Islam, who is also the lead investigating officer.
