A horrific homicide has sent shockwaves through the capital after a young Bangladesh Railway official was stabbed to death and brutally mutilated, allegedly by his mistress. The fatal assault occurred on Saturday afternoon, 11 July, inside a newly rented flat in the Mohakhali TB Gate area. The victim, identified as 28-year-old Mamun Bhuiyan, succumbed to his catastrophic injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital later that evening. Law enforcement officials acted swiftly to detain the accused woman at the scene.
The victim arrived at the residence of the suspect, Beauty Akter, on Saturday afternoon. Investigators believe an extramarital affair between the two led to a heated altercation inside the flat. As the dispute escalated, the confrontation turned violent. Beauty allegedly drew a sharp kitchen knife, stabbing Mamun repeatedly in the chest and abdomen before severing his genitals.
The landlord of the property, Suman Mahmud, revealed that Beauty had only rented the flat the previous day, Friday, 10 July. According to neighbours, the quiet afternoon was shattered by Mamun’s desperate screams for help. Perplexed and alarmed, residents rushed to the flat, where they discovered the railway official collapsed on the floor in a pool of blood. The police were notified immediately.
A team from the Banani Police Station arrived rapidly, cordoning off the area and detaining Beauty before she could flee the premises. Emergency responders rushed a heavily bleeding Mamun to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Despite the best efforts of the attending medical team, he was pronounced dead at approximately 7:00 pm.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Tareq Hasan of Banani Police Station confirmed the sequence of events. He stated that the suspect was taken into custody directly from the crime scene and remains detained for interrogation. The victim’s body has been transferred to the hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination, and formal legal proceedings are currently being processed.
The tragedy has devastated the victim’s family. Mamun’s uncle, Mokesed Ali Bhuiyan, travelled to the capital to identify the body and speak with investigators. Mamun was the son of Babul Bhuiyan, hailing from Maliati village in the Ishwarganj sub-district of Mymensingh. The middle child of three siblings, he had secured a coveted position at Bangladesh Railway just five months ago and had officially joined his post within the last month. Family members further disclosed that Mamun had been married to his wife, Jannat, for five years. She is currently pregnant and residing at their ancestral family home, completely unaware that a routine trip to the capital would end in such unimaginable violence.
