Unidentified Man Killed by Freight Train at Laksam Junction

An unidentified man was killed after being struck and severed by a moving train in the Laksam area of Comilla. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 7:00 pm on Saturday, 11 July, right within the busy parameters of the Laksam Railway Junction. The incident disrupted local rail movements temporarily as emergency personnel rushed to the scene.

The grim details of the accident were officially confirmed by Mohammad Jasim Uddin Khondakar, the Officer-in-Charge of the Laksam Railway Police Station. According to railway police sources, the individual was run over by a passing freight train and died instantly from catastrophic injuries before any medical assistance could be administered. Upon receiving alerts from local onlookers and railway staff, a detachment of the Government Railway Police rushed to the location to retrieve the remains.

Law enforcement officials stated that the deceased appeared to be approximately 50 years of age. At the time of the accident, he was wearing blue shorts, a red-and-white t-shirt, and blue canvas shoes. Despite initial enquiries among commuters and nearby residents at the station, authorities were completely unable to establish the man’s identity immediately.

Laksam Railway Junction remains one of the largest and busiest rail interchanges in Bangladesh, handling dozens of passenger and cargo trains daily, which frequently leads to dangerous track-crossing attempts by pedestrians. Officer-in-Charge Jasim Uddin Khondakar added that the body has been temporarily kept at the railway police station.

To break the deadlock in the identification process, the railway police have officially requested the assistance of the Police Bureau of Investigation. Specialists from the investigative unit will arrive to collect fingerprint biometrics and perform advanced forensic checks. Following these standard procedures, the body will be transferred to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination, whilst a case of unnatural death is being registered.
