A formal investigation has been launched in Satkhira after an eight-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly subject to a severe sexual assault. The young victim, a second-grade primary student, suffered critical injuries and is currently undergoing emergency medical treatment at the Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Local law enforcement authorities have registered a criminal case following an official complaint lodged by the child’s mother.
The harrowing incident occurred on Sunday evening within the Satkhira Sadar locality. According to family members, hospital staff, and initial police briefs, a local teenager allegedly lured the young girl to the rooftop of a neighbouring residence under the false pretext of offering her fresh guavas. It was on this isolated rooftop that the assault took place. When the young child began crying hysterically, the suspect brought her down from the roof. The victim’s aunt, alerted by the distress, approached the scene, causing the teenager—identified as a sixth-grade student at a local madrasa—to flee the area immediately.
As the child suffered acute hemorrhaging, her family rushed her to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Medical personnel at the emergency department worked swiftly to contain the severe blood loss. Dr Sudeshna Sarkar, the medical officer on duty at the emergency wing, confirmed the severity of the child’s admission details. She noted that the victim was brought into the facility at approximately 10:00 pm on Sunday night in a critical condition, exhibiting extensive bleeding. The medical team administered four emergency stitches as part of the primary treatment, but given the severe nature of her trauma and the need for specialized intervention, she was transferred to the Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
The child’s recovery remains a matter of close medical observation. Commenting on the victim’s current clinical prognosis, Professor Kamrun Nahar, Head of the Gynaecology Department at the Satkhira Medical College Hospital, stated that comprehensive treatment protocols are actively being pursued. She emphasised that it is too premature to provide a definitive assessment of her physical recovery, indicating that a clearer picture regarding her long-term stability would emerge over the coming days.
Following notifications from medical staff, Sub-Inspector Pradip Kumar of the Satkhira Sadar Police Station visited the medical facility to interview family members and collect vital preliminary evidence. The legal system has moved into motion, with an official case recorded on Monday afternoon.
Confirming the administrative progression of the inquiry, Masudur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Satkhira Sadar Police Station, stated that the victim’s mother formally filed the assault case at approximately 5:00 pm. The station chief assured that the case is being handled with the utmost gravity, and dedicated police units are actively conducting raids to apprehend the runaway suspect.
