Marvel Studios has injected fresh momentum into its cinematic universe with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which earned a staggering $927 million (approximately 113 billion taka) worldwide during its opening weekend. The film has secured the second-highest global debut in cinema history, trailing only the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which opened to $1.22 billion.
Within just three days of release, the film comfortably surpassed its estimated production budget of $225 million. The performance represents a critical turnaround for Marvel Studios following a period of underperformance for several high-budget titles, including The Marvels and Thunderbolts.
The film achieved historical milestones across both domestic and international markets, driven by massive turnout across more than 73,000 screens globally.

In North America, the film generated $355 million over its first three days, making it the second-largest domestic opening in history behind Avengers: Endgame, which debuted at $357 million. Internationally, the release grossed $572 million, led by China with $121 million and the United Kingdom with $49 million.
Set several years after the events of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker navigating a world where no one remembers his identity. The storyline focuses on themes of isolation, personal sacrifice, and rebuilding human connections. Zendaya reprises her role as MJ, alongside Holland, with their on-screen dynamic earning widespread applause from critics and audiences alike. Many commentators have described the performance as Holland’s finest portrayal of the character to date.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige described the opening numbers as extraordinary, expressing gratitude to cinema-goers for experiencing the film on the big screen as intended. Industry analysts view the triumph as a vital morale boost ahead of the scheduled release of Avengers: Doomsday this December.
The massive opening comes as the broader theatrical market exhibits strong recovery trends in 2026. Following years of post-pandemic disruption and streaming competition, the North American box office is pacing to cross the $10 billion mark for the first time since 2019.
Multiple releases have already crossed the $1 billion threshold this year, including Toy Story 5, Michael, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey are also projected to surpass the billion-dollar milestone shortly. Meanwhile, independent horror titles Obsession and Backrooms have earned over $390 million globally, underscoring a broader revitalisation across the cinema sector.
