The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a new age-group tournament scheduled to commence on 28 August, aimed at providing emerging cricketers with increased exposure to competitive match conditions. The fifty-over competition features three teams representing distinct developmental tiers: Bangladesh Under-17, Under-19, and Under-23 squads. All fixtures throughout the event will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
The opening match on 28 August will see the Under-17 national side square off against the Under-19 team. Following a rest day, the Under-19 side will return to action on 30 August to take on the Under-23 team. To ensure players receive adequate playing time, the first stage of the competition will follow a double round-robin format. Under this structure, each participating team faces the other two sides twice during the group phase, guaranteeing that every age-group squad completes a minimum of four matches before the knockout round.
Upon completion of the double round-robin fixtures, the top two teams on the points table will advance directly to the final. The showpiece match is scheduled for 9 September, where the top two performers will compete for the title. Match officials have confirmed that every contest, from the opening fixture through to the final, will commence at 9:30 AM local time.
By bringing together junior and senior age-group players within a single competitive framework, the BCB seeks to accelerate youth development and bridge the gap between age-group levels and senior domestic cricket. Board administrators view the initiative as a crucial step towards evaluating elite prospects, testing their adaptability across different age brackets, and fortifying the nation’s talent pipeline under high-intensity conditions at Mirpur’s premier international venue.
