Barcelona have pivoted their transfer strategy away from Julián Álvarez, shifting their attention toward Internazionale striker Lautaro Martínez as they seek to reinforce their attacking options under manager Hansi Flick. Whilst Álvarez was initially identified as Barcelona’s primary target, negotiations with Atlético Madrid have stagnated, with the Spanish club showing no willingness to part with the Argentine international.
According to reports from Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Martínez following negotiations led by sporting director Deco. Having established terms with the player’s representatives, Barcelona are now preparing to submit an official opening bid to Inter Milan. The initial proposal, expected to be lodged shortly, is anticipated to fall below the €100 million mark.
Despite reaching common ground with the player, Barcelona face significant hurdles in securing a deal with the Serie A club. Inter Milan maintain a firm stance that their club captain is not for sale under any circumstances. Further complicating matters is the transfer window timeline, with only ten days remaining before the market closes. Should Inter agree to part with Martínez at this stage, the Italian side would be left with insufficient time to procure a suitable high-calibre replacement.
Martínez’s record at San Siro underscores his importance to the club. Across 376 appearances for Inter Milan, the striker has registered 175 goals and 56 assists, establishing himself as a reliable goalscorer and an influential leader. Major sports publications including Marca and ESPN report that whilst Martínez remains Barcelona’s main target, the club continues to monitor alternative attacking options should Inter refuse to negotiate.
