Veteran singer Runa Laila is preparing for a much-anticipated return to Australia this August, marking her first performances there in nearly a decade. The celebrated artist will be joined by the Bengal Symphony, conducted by Emon Chowdhury, for a series of large-scale live concerts in Sydney and Melbourne that promise a rich blend of timeless classics and orchestral arrangements.
The tour will open in Sydney on 1 August with a special event titled “Bangladesh Night”, to be held at the Norwest Convention Centre. The concert is being organised by Listen For and will also feature popular singer Pintu Ghosh as a guest performer. A second concert, “Runa Laila and Symphony Legacy Tour”, is scheduled for 8 August at the Melbourne Recital Centre, organised by Australia Bangladesh Cultural Exchange Inc. Advance ticket sales for both events have already begun online and are reportedly receiving strong interest from audiences.
Organisers have described the concerts as more than conventional musical performances, highlighting them as cultural celebrations designed to bring together generations of listeners. The shows are expected to feature a fusion of orchestral interpretations alongside Runa Laila’s most enduring hits, offering audiences a refreshed experience of her extensive musical repertoire.
Speaking ahead of the tour, Runa Laila expressed her enthusiasm about reconnecting with her Australian audience. She noted that it has been many years since her last performance in the country and emphasised that the upcoming concerts are being arranged on a significant scale. She also mentioned that she will be performing many of the songs most beloved by fans, reflecting on the strong response already seen in advance ticket sales.
Conductor Emon Chowdhury also shared his excitement, stating that the team is preparing a carefully curated setlist. The performances are expected to include popular tracks such as “Kotha Koiyo Na”, “Baji”, “Shada Shada”, and “Teka Pakhi”, all reimagined with symphonic arrangements to enhance their live presentation.
Runa Laila is scheduled to depart for Sydney on 29 July, accompanied by a seven-member musical ensemble. The tour is expected to draw significant audiences from the Bangladeshi diaspora as well as wider South Asian music enthusiasts across Australia.
