A court in Natore has sentenced a 21-year-old man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of 50,000 taka following his conviction for the sexual assault of a seven-year-old schoolgirl. District and Sessions Judge Sharmin Akhter delivered the verdict on Sunday afternoon, 6 September, at the Natore Children Violence Prevention Tribunal.
The convict, identified as Abu Bakar Siddique, is the son of Md Abu Hanif and resides in Bijoy Nagar village under Singra Upazila in Natore. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court directed that the entirety of the financial penalty be handed over to the victim’s family as compensation.
According to the case dockets and court proceedings, the crime took place on the morning of 25 February 2025. The victim, a primary school pupil in the third form, was walking to her local government school at around 8:00 am when Siddique intercepted her along the road. He lured the young girl into an adjacent unoccupied house in the same village and subjected her to a sexual assault.
Distressed and injured, the child managed to return home and inform her guardians of the ordeal. Recognising the severity of her condition, her family rushed her to the Singra Upazila Health Complex for immediate medical treatment. Shortly afterwards, the child’s father lodged a formal complaint against Siddique at the Singra Police Station, initiating a police investigation under the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act.
Law enforcement personnel acted swiftly upon receiving the report, arresting Siddique and remanding him into custody at the Natore District Jail. Following a thorough police enquiry and the submission of medical and forensic evidence, the case proceeded to trial. Over the course of the hearings, prosecutors presented witness testimony to substantiate the allegations.
After reviewing the presented evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the tribunal found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The convict was present in the dock when the judgment was pronounced, before being escorted back to prison under security to serve his life term.
