At least fifteen garment factory workers, including several women, sustained injuries when a bus transporting them to work lost control and overturned on the Maona-Kaliakair regional highway in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila.

The accident occurred on Monday morning around 8:30 am in the Kutubdia area. The vehicle, operated on behalf of GMS Textiles, was gathering employees from various designated pick-up points and travelling towards the industrial facility when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the bus to veer off the road and flip onto its side.

Local residents rushed to the scene immediately following the crash, pulling injured passengers from the wreckage and arranging transport to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex. While most received initial emergency care at the health complex, several workers with more severe injuries were subsequently transferred to advanced medical facilities for specialised treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Kaliakair Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that a police team was dispatched to Kutubdia shortly after receiving reports of the crash. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation at the site and cleared the vehicle from the thoroughfare to ensure smooth traffic flow, with authorities confirming that formal legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.

Road accidents involving industrial transport vehicles remain a recurring issue across Gazipur’s manufacturing hubs, where thousands of garment workers rely on private contract buses to reach factories daily. Rapid driving during peak morning hours, mechanical oversights, and congested regional roads frequently contribute to high-risk commuting conditions for the region’s workforce.
