Police in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, have seized an abandoned bag containing approximately 24 kilogrammes of lead bullet tips and metallic projectile remnants from a graveyard adjacent to a local mosque.

The recovery occurred on Monday morning near the Baitul Nur Jame Mosque in Lamchar village, situated within the Lamchar Union of the upazila. According to local residents, the unattended bag was spotted inside the cemetery grounds early in the day, sparking immediate concern among worshippers and passers-by due to its suspicious placement.

Upon being alerted by the villagers, a team from the Mohammadia Bazar Police Investigation Centre dispatched officers to inspect the scene. Officers promptly secured the area and retrieved the bag. On opening it, they uncovered a massive stash of spent projectile fragments and heavy lead heads weighing around 24 kg in total.

Sub-Inspector Taj Uddin, the officer-in-charge at the Mohammadia Bazar Police Investigation Centre, confirmed that preliminary examinations indicate the items are indeed the lead heads and metallic components of discharged ammunition. Investigators suspect the materials may have been gathered from a military or civilian firing range, or potentially stolen before being abandoned by unidentified miscreants attempting to evade law enforcement detection.

Unlawful possession and illegal trading of scrap metal from munitions present severe public safety risks. The chemical composition of lead projectiles makes them valuable on the black market for illicit bullet manufacturing or secondary metal smelting. Consequently, local authorities have launched a comprehensive inquiry to trace the exact origin of the consignment, determine how the bag was smuggled into the burial ground, and identify the individuals involved in transporting or discarding the heavy load. Legal proceedings and formal documentation regarding the seizure remain ongoing.
