Indian actress and dancer Nora Fatehi is facing a ₹3 crore defamation lawsuit filed by aviation company Dunes Aviation after comments she made about one of its chartered aircraft were shared on social media.
According to Indian media reports, Fatehi travelled from Mumbai to Jaipur in December last year aboard a Dunes Aviation Cessna Citation CJ2 aircraft. During the journey, she recorded a video inside the aircraft and later posted it on her Instagram account.
In the video, Fatehi reportedly described the aircraft as a ‘toy’ and compared it to a ‘Lego airplane’, referring to the plastic construction toys. The remarks have since become the basis of a legal dispute between the actress and the aviation company.
Dunes Aviation has objected strongly to Fatehi’s description of the aircraft. The company claims that her comments were reckless and irresponsible and were made without any technical knowledge or factual basis regarding the aircraft.
The aviation company has argued that the remarks were particularly damaging because of Fatehi’s substantial social media following. According to its claims, the video and her comments reached a large audience and created a negative impression of the company and its services.
Dunes Aviation has alleged that the controversy had a direct impact on its business. The company claims that bookings fell by between 15 and 20 per cent following the comments, while flight cancellations also increased. It has cited these alleged consequences as part of the grounds for seeking financial compensation.
The company is seeking ₹3 crore in damages from Fatehi. It has also reportedly asked for the removal of the video and related material from social media platforms, along with a public explanation from the actress concerning her remarks.
The case has been filed before a court in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The proceedings will determine whether the company can establish that the comments amounted to defamation and caused the financial and reputational damage it has alleged.
The dispute highlights the potential legal and commercial consequences of comments made by high-profile public figures on social media. A casual remark can reach millions of viewers within a short period, particularly when it comes from a celebrity with a large online following. At the same time, claims of reputational or financial damage in a defamation case generally need to be supported by evidence before a court.
