Joint drives conducted by local administration and agricultural officials in Khansama Upazila, Dinajpur, have led to the seizure of 1,577 bags of chemical fertilizer stockpiled beyond authorized limits. The two-day operation resulted in cumulative fines of 90,000 taka, the sealing of a commercial warehouse, and formal criminal charges filed against an absconding dealer accused of trying to artificialize market shortages.
The enforcement operations began on Thursday afternoon, 10 September, when mobile courts targeted M/S Roni Traders, a BCIC-licensed dealership owned by Mojaharul Islam in the Pakerhat area. Inspecting officers uncovered 920 illicitly stored bags, comprising 660 bags of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 260 bags of Muriate of Potash (MOP). Because Mojaharul Islam fled the scene during the raid, authorities initiated a regular police case against him.
Inspections continued into Friday, 11 September, when officials raided M/S Mahadev Traders, a BADC dealership managed by Mohitosh Chandra Chanda in Pakerhat. Search teams seized 450 bags of fertilizer—specifically 350 bags of MOP and 100 bags of DAP. A mobile court penalized the business with a 40,000 taka fine and ordered the warehouse sealed on the spot.
On the same day, enforcement teams inspected M/S Asaduzzaman Traders, a BCIC dealership located at Tongua Market. Officers confiscated 207 bags, including 94 bags of DAP, 55 bags of Urea, and 58 bags of MOP. The mobile court imposed a 50,000 taka fine on the establishment for maintaining unauthorized reserves.
The joint task force was led by Khansama Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Kamruzzaman Sarkar, alongside District Administration Executive Magistrates Adnan Kabir Uday and Monowar Hossain. Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ayan Farhan Shams and Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter were also present throughout the raids.
Upazila Executive Officer Kamruzzaman Sarkar stated that the confiscated fertilizer has been forfeited to the state and will be redistributed to local farmers at government-regulated prices, with all sales proceeds deposited directly into the national treasury. He warned that monitoring across retail Outlets will remain rigorous to prevent dealers from creating artificial supply crises. Upazila Agriculture Officer Yasmin Akter added that despite prior warnings regarding storage compliance, legal action became necessary after dealers repeatedly disregarded official directives.
