During the drive, officials searched three retail fertiliser dispensaries alongside a private storehouse belonging to Faruq Sheikh, a Union Parishad member and leader of the activity-banned Awami League in South Charbanshi Union. Upon inspecting the facilities, agriculture officials discovered substantial stockpiles of various essential fertilisers—including urea, triple superphosphate (TSP), and diammonium phosphate (DAP)—stored without valid paperwork or official distribution authorisations. When the management failed to present verified purchase receipts or valid allotment documents matching the inventory, officials confiscated roughly 60 bags of mixed fertilisers on the spot.

Local farmers in the agricultural belt along the Meghna river basin have reported frequent challenges in sourcing essential soil nutrients at government-fixed tariffs, often suspecting that unscrupulous traders hoard stock to artificially drive up prices. The recent operation forms part of broader administrative interventions across coastal districts aimed at protecting farmers from predatory market practices.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Majedul Islam confirmed the seizure, stating that the drive was initiated following concrete allegations of illegal storage and unauthorized sales across South Charbanshi Union. He emphasized that authorities are thoroughly verifying the seized inventory against official supply ledgers, and appropriate legal and administrative sanctions will be executed against the perpetrators under existing agricultural commodity regulations.
