Police in Kaliganj, Gazipur, have registered a case against Jahid Munshi, joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) local unit, following allegations of serial sexual assault, blackmail, and physical abuse involving a college student.

The suspect, son of Zakir Mistry from Munsefpur village in Kaliganj municipality, allegedly coerced the victim into a relationship under the false premise of marriage. According to the police statement, the victim, a second-year Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) student at Kaliganj Government Shramik College, first met Munshi three to four months ago while purchasing a watch at Kaliganj market.

The relationship quickly escalated when the politician reportedly lured the student to a guest house, sexually assaulted her, and secretly recorded intimate photographs and video footage. Munshi subsequently used the illicit recordings to blackmail the young woman, threatening to publish them across social media platforms if she refused his demands.

Over the following months, the victim was repeatedly subjected to sexual exploitation across multiple locations, including a guest house in Mirer Bazar under Pubail Police Station, local resorts, residential hotels, and an abandoned railway staff quarter near Arikhola station. When the student eventually confronted Munshi and pressured him to fulfill his promise of marriage, he physically assaulted her.

The ordeal came to light after the victim confided in her family. Accompanied by her elder sister, the student visited the suspect’s residence, where they discovered that Munshi had concealed previous marriages and already fathered a child.

On Monday night, the victim’s elder sister filed a formal complaint at Kaliganj Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. Local authorities confirmed the registration of the case and stated that an investigation is currently underway to apprehend the accused, who remains at large. Legal experts note that offenses involving digital blackmail alongside sexual violence carry stringent penalties under Bangladeshi law, incorporating both statutory rape guidelines and cyber-crime legislation.
