The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has set an ambitious target to produce 428,616 tonnes of clean rice in Gaibandha during the current Aman season.

To achieve this target, the DAE has planned to cultivate T-Aman paddy on 133,120 hectares of land across all seven upazilas in the district.

Upazila-wise Land Allocation for T-Aman Cultivation

Upazila Land Area (Hectares)
Sadar 59,105
Sadullapur 52,533
Palashbari 33,942
Gobindaganj 102,881
Sundarganj 99,586
Saghata 47,002
Fulchhari 25,627
Total 133,120

Variety-wise Distribution

Rice Variety Cultivated Area (Hectares)
High-Yielding (HYV) 121,235
Local Variety 4,575
Hybrid Variety 7,230

Currently, farmers are engaged in transplanting Aman seedlings onto moist fields following early seasonal rains.

To support uninterrupted irrigation, the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) has made 365 deep tube wells fully operational. These tube wells will ensure water availability throughout the growing season, an official from BMDA confirmed.

In parallel, state-run banks, including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, are disbursing agricultural loans on favourable terms. These loans are aimed particularly at poor and marginal farmers, enabling them to cultivate T-Aman paddy without facing financial constraints.

The DAE is also conducting farmer training programmes focused on:

  • Modern paddy cultivation technologies
  • Efficient crop and fertiliser management
  • Insecticide use and seed preservation

According to Rostam Ali, Acting District Training Officer of DAE, these initiatives are crucial for boosting productivity and sustainability.

The progress so far is encouraging. The transplanted seedlings are thriving, and farmers across the district are optimistic about a bumper yield this year.
