The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a significant reshuffle within the top tier of Bangladesh Police, transferring two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) to key regional jurisdictions across the country.
According to an official notification issued on Thursday, DIG Md Rezaul Karim, who had been serving at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka, has been reassigned to lead the Khulna Range. Concurrently, DIG Md Mstafizur Rahman, the outgoing chief of the Khulna Range, has been posted as the new DIG of the Dhaka Range, one of the most critical administrative units within the force.
Signed by Deputy Secretary Taousif Ahmed on behalf of the ministry’s Public Security Division, the executive order explicitly noted that the administrative movements have been enacted in the public interest and will take immediate effect.
Administrative Context and Role Overview
Regional police ranges in Bangladesh are pivotal to maintaining law and order across several districts simultaneously. A Deputy Inspector General overseeing a range acts as the administrative and operational head, responsible for supervising District Superintendents of Police (SPs), coordinating major operations, and ensuring public safety throughout the region.
Dhaka Range: Regarded as one of the most strategic postings in the country, this jurisdiction covers the surrounding districts of the national capital. Managing security, crime control, and public order in this densely populated belt demands experienced operational oversight.
Khulna Range: Tasked with maintaining stability across the south-western division, this command covers critical border corridors and key coastal hubs.
Reassignments of this nature are standard administrative protocol designed to optimize operational efficiency within police management. The transition process is expected to begin immediately, with both senior officers formally assuming their respective posts in the coming days.
