Police officers have arrested a 26-year-old woman identified as Hosna Ara Begum for her alleged involvement in illicit narcotics trading, seizing 630 Yaba tablets during a targeted raid in Dowarabazar upazila, Sunamganj. Law enforcement authorities estimated the total market value of the confiscated contraband at approximately 189,000 taka, marking a significant hit against local drug distribution channels.
Acting on precise intelligence regarding local drug trafficking operations near the border belt, a specialized team from Dowarabazar Police Station led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjoy Dutta launched a night-time operation. At around 10:00 pm on Thursday, officers surrounded and searched a residential dwelling in Kushiura village, situated within Banglabazar Union. During a thorough search of the premises, law enforcement personnel caught Hosna Ara Begum red-handed with the concealed stash of 630 Yaba pills.
Police records reveal that the suspect is the wife of Ayaz Ali, residing in nearby Kironpara village within the same union. Preliminary investigations indicate that local smuggling networks have increasingly attempted to recruit female operatives to transport and store narcotics across rural settlements in an effort to bypass routine police checks and avoid public suspicion.
Confirming the arrest and seizure, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dowarabazar Police Station, Tarikul Islam Talukder, stated that strict anti-narcotics drives remain active across the upazila to curb the proliferation of illegal substances. A formal case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act. Following preliminary legal procedures at the police station, the suspect was presented before the Sunamganj judicial court for further proceedings, while law enforcement officials continue investigations to trace the origin of the seized consignment.
