The injured officers were identified as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, Md Mahbubur Rahman, and Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashik. Police identified the three arrested individuals as Saim, 30, from Bhairabpur; Robin, 37, from Panchabati; and Rajib from Jagannathpur.

According to eye-witness Imtiaz Kajol, a local leader of Gono Odhikar Parishad, the sequence of events began earlier in the morning during his daily walk. At approximately 4:30 am, a distressed commuter near the bus stand reported that muggers had robbed him of 17,000 taka. Fearing further attacks, several stranded passengers were hesitant to proceed to the railway station. Kajol personally escorted them to the station on a rickshaw to ensure their safety.

Upon returning from the station, Kajol noticed police personnel assembled near the railway bridge alongside the damaged police vehicle, its front windscreen shattered by heavy stones taken from the nearby railway track.

SI Ashik explained that after receiving reports of muggings in the area, a police unit immediately rushed to the scene. As the team arrived, a gang of 10 to 15 muggers launched a sudden barrage of stones at the vehicle, injuring both SI Ashik and OC Mahbubur Rahman before fleeing into the darkness.

Following the attack, police reinforced the area and conducted a drive that resulted in the capture of three primary suspects. OC Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed that the detainees confessed to their involvement during initial interrogations. Police have filed a case against the three arrested individuals and 10 to 15 unnamed accomplices, citing charges of assaulting law enforcement, damaging government property, and obstructing official duties. Raids remain ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
